MECO’s High Purity Water and Steam Systems Play a Critical Role in Supporting Operation Warp Speed (OWS)
MECO, a world leader in the design and manufacture of water purification systems, is currently involved in multiple Operation Warp Speed (OWS) projects. Operation Warp Speed is a public/private partnership initiated by the US government to facilitate and accelerate the development, manufacture, and distribution of COVID-19 vaccines, therapeutics, and diagnostics. The multiple projects are greatly contributing to the fight against COVID-19. Operation Warp Speed has invested in six vaccine candidates and as of recent, four of the vaccine candidates have entered the last phase of clinical trials before approval by the FDA.
Water plays an essential role in this because high purity water is a critical ingredient in the drug manufacturing process. Because the biopharmaceutical industry is heavily regulated, high purity water must meet certain standards in order to be used in drug manufacturing and development. These standards are classified as the following pharmaceutical grade water and steam types: Purified Water (PW), Water for Injection (WFI) and Pure Steam (PS). Producing over 25 million gallons of pharmaceutical water daily, MECO’s systems are critical to Operation Warp Speed’s efforts and the biopharmaceutical industry around the world.
