MECO Awarded Excellence in Government Contracting as the Small Business of the Year
Sugar Land, TX – Mechanical Equipment Company Inc., (MECO) designer and manufacturer of the US Army’s latest Light Weight Water Purifier units (LWP), announced today that it has been awarded the Excellence in Government Contracting Award as the Small Business of the Year. The Louisiana Procurement Technical Assistance Center (PTAC), a Department of Defense supported agency, presented the award to MECO for the LWP program.
The LWP is the world’s most advanced lightweight mobile water purification system for military applications and includes the latest technological advances for the treatment of water in this harsh environment. “This award was a direct result of the hard work and dedication of our employees coupled with the outstanding support we have received from our Government customer, and partner, the Product Management Office, Petroleum and Water Systems, U.S. Army Tank and Automotive Command,” said George Gsell, President of MECO.
Following Hurricane Katrina, which devastated MECO’s fabrication facilities in New Orleans, the company quickly re-established production facilities for the LWP in Covington, Louisiana and Sugar Land, Texas. This allowed minimal disruption to the U.S. Army program to provide LWPs under a five (5) year contract. For example, the 10th Mountain Division, headquartered at Camp Liberty, Iraq is presently utilizing the LWP in a combat environment in Iraq.

The company has a history of providing products and services to the US Armed forces dating as far back as World War II. MECO is the worlds leading producer of water purification plants for offshore oil and gas platforms and the biopharmaceutical industry where ultrapure water is the primary ingredient in the drug manufacturing process.
